About Me

I’m grateful you’ve read this far, and appreciate you going on this little journey with me.

What can I tell you? Here are the basics:

I earned my bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma and my graduate degree in radio/tv/film from the University of North Texas. I’ve had an ecclectic but fulfilling career in corporate marketing/advertising/branding, and have learned tons from some of the biggest brands on the planet. Then I wandered off on my own to freelance and have loved every minute. All of these experiences were excellent practice for writing for kids.

Now, I’m a part-time freelance copywriter, a full-time mom, and I spend every minute I can writing stories and encouraging other writers. My middle grade debut novel, “Jeff Pennant’s Field Guide to Raising Happy Parents,” will be published by Chicken Scratch Books on October 1. Yay!

In the interest of getting to know each other better, here’s an abbreviated list of things that make me happy:

  • Lists
  • The smell of dirt
  • Dancing (with or without music)
  • Freshly-laundered socks
  • Old-school church choirs
  • Breakfast for dinner
  • My kid’s laugh
  • Fishing
